5 Signs Your Small Engine Needs a Rebuild
Engines in golf carts, go-karts, ATVs, scooters and dirt bikes work hard. A professional rebuild can restore performance for a fraction of the cost of a new engine.
1. Blue or white smoke
Blue smoke usually means oil is burning past worn rings or valve seals. White smoke can point to coolant entering the combustion chamber.
2. Knocking or rattling
Knocking from the bottom end can mean worn bearings or connecting rods. Stop riding and have it inspected to avoid catastrophic failure.
3. Low compression and hard starting
A compression test is quick and tells you a lot. Low readings point to worn rings, cylinders or valves.
4. Excessive oil consumption
Topping up oil between changes is a sign of internal wear.
5. Loss of power
If tune-ups, filters and carb cleaning don’t bring back power, internal wear is likely.
Rebuild or replace?
A rebuild makes sense when the engine block is sound, parts are available and you want to keep matching specs. Replacement may be better for very old or damaged engines. Either way, we can quote both options.
